Success Club supports projects across 14 schools
A local educational charity has marked five years since launching in Enfield with a celebration where its chair said its work supporting schools was needed “now more than ever”.
This month marks five years of the children’s charity Success Club working in Enfield schools. Last week representatives from school management, experts in education as well as trustees of the charity came together with the team of facilitators and operational staff to celebrate.
The charity exists to support schools to empower children and promote their achievement, not only academically but socially, with a mission statement of “no child left behind”.
Chair Robert Challis addressed the room, praising Success Club for the great strides made in the past five years, as well as reminding all attendees of the pressing need for more of the same. He said: “Now more than ever our work is needed in schools where budgets are tight and mental health and wellbeing of children is at risk.”
The five year celebration night was sponsored by local pub The Winchmore, as well as locally-founded gaming company Zwap.
Success Club is run by founder Tony Dallas, who has dedicated the past 40 years of his professional life to the pursuit of excellence both in and outside the classroom. He is a trained mindfulness teacher and has worked for BBC Bitesize, mental health charity Mind, and the children’s commissioner for England.
The core aim of the charity is to support and maintain the performance of young people who are potentially at risk of under-achieving academically and socially as a result of challenging and negative behaviour patterns. This year alone Success Club has raised £90,000 in funds to support schools in Enfield and Islington, where it also works, supporting wellness and mental health in local schools.
Highly experienced and qualified facilitators at Success Club strive to provide support and learning opportunities to primary and secondary school children, enhancing their personal development and guiding their social and educational journey.
All of Success Club’s programmes of intervention aim to help students understand the wider implications of negative attitudes, for example anti-social behaviour, gangs, self-doubt, anxiety and low self-esteem. The charity supports them, through mindfulness practice, in finding solutions to issues they may face now and in the future.
