The Metropolitan Police is appealing for information following a violent attack on an elderly man in Edmonton Green.

The assault took place in Fore Street outside Rumi Mosque at around 11.30am on Tuesday, 16th September, although the incident was not connected to the mosque.

The victim was Tony Tillay, an 81-year-old man using crutches, who suffered a broken wrist and was badly shaken.

CCTV footage from the mosque shows Tony being repeatedly harassed by the attacker, who is described as an overweight white male in his 30s or 40s and wearing a green jacket. The man eventually starts pushing Tony up against metal railings and swings an arm before apparently trying to take Tony’s crutches.

Tony’s wife Anita told the Dispatch: “It was unbelievable. We don’t know why it happened, Tony was just walking down the road.

“It has caused him a lot of stress, and he has cancer as well. I hope the police get hold of him [the attacker].”

A Met spokesperson said: “There have been no arrests at this stage and enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or online, quoting crime reference number 01/7977615/25. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
