Multiple Christmas lights switch-on events are planned across the borough over the next few weeks to help people get into the festive spirit.

The events span Edmonton Green, Enfield Town, Palmers Green and Angel Edmonton and include the much-loved Parade of Light event that involves many charities, businesses and local groups.

First up next Friday (21st), from 3pm-7pm, locals are invited to Edmonton Green Shopping Centre’s Christmas lights switch-on event. There will be ice skating, hot chocolate, fairground rides, and live performances from local artists to embrace the Christmas cheer. There will even be complimentary goody bags with festive surprises for the first 150 visitors.

Sam Ibrahim, the centre manager, said: “There’s nothing quite like seeing our community come together to celebrate the start of the Christmas season, and we’ve planned an afternoon that will create lasting memories for visitors of all ages.”

Next up on Thursday, 27th November, residents are invited to join Enfield mayor Margaret Greer and Southgate and Wood Green MP Bambos Charalambous for a Christmas lights switch-on event in the centre of Palmers Green, starting from 3.30pm. There will also be performances from both Hazelwood School Choir and St John’s Church Choir, goody bags and refreshments donated by Green Lanes Business Association.

On Sunday, 30th November, the Enfield Parade of Light starts from 4pm outside Enfield Civic Centre with the usual festive parade around Enfield Town comprising local groups, young people and good causes. The event culminates with a fireworks display at around 5.30pm in Market Square, where there will also be a variety of family-friendly activities taking place throughout the day.

Finally, on Thursday, 4th December, Angel Yard on the Joyce and Snells Park Estate in Angel Edmonton will be hosting its Christmas tree lighting event between 6pm and 7.30pm. Alongside the tree lighting ceremony, there will be live festive music, an opportunity to do Christmas shopping from local businesses, mulled wine and mince pies as well as a raffle with exciting prizes. The event will be raising funds for Shelter from the Storm, a London-based homeless charity.
