A man in his 20s has died after a moped and a police car were involved in a road traffic collision in Southbury Road.

At approximately 3.05pm yesterday (Thursday 12th), the police vehicle and moped collided near the intersection of Baird Road and Southbury Road.

Paramedics from London Ambulance Service arrived at the scene and the moped rider was taken to hospital, where he sadly died. No-one else was reported as injured.

The man’s next of kin have been informed. Road closures remain in place at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police has since said the police car was responding to an emergency call at the time of the collision, but was not involved in a pursuit with another vehicle.

A spokesperson said: “Enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are ongoing by officers from the Met’s roads and transport policing command.

“The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed. A referral has been made to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) who will investigate the matter.”
