A new housing development on a former Enfield Council depot in Bush Hill Park is nearing completion.

The Bury Street West site consists of 50 new “low energy” homes, of which half will be made available at London Affordable Rent levels, and has already won a prize for ‘best rural/suburban development’ at the Inside Housing Development Awards 2022.

Designed by architects Karakusevic Carson, developer Hill Partnerships began work on the scheme in March 2020 and the first homes were completed in December 2022. It lies adjacent to Salmons Brook and an upgraded pedestrian bridge over the river will soon link the new homes to the Bury Lodge Wetlands nature reserve. A wildlife meadow is also now being created alongside the waterway.

Council leader Nesil Caliskan along with George Savva, cabinet member for social housing, visited the site last week. Cllr Caliskan said: “This development will provide a affordable housing and homes for sale prioritised for local residents.

“The estate is almost unique in Enfield in the sense that it sits in the centre of one of the borough’s most vibrant areas, yet exists in a beautiful rural space, ideally suited to families.

“This is a creative development that provides high-class housing in an extremely desirable setting which will help us to provide accommodation in the areas it is most needed.”

The council says Enfield residents will be “prioritised” during the initial sales period and that registration is now open.
