Bambos Charalambous MP joined pupils on Garfield Primary School’s roof to celebrate the savings made

A New Southgate primary school invited their local MP to help celebrate the installation of their new solar panels.
Staff and children at Garfield Primary School in Upper Park Road welcomed Southgate and Wood Green MP Bambos Charalambous on Monday (24th) at the start of UK Parliament Week 2025, while inviting him to launch the school’s new solar panel installation.
Funded by City Hall’s ‘greener schools’ programme, the 64 solar panels were installed over the summer on the school’s roof. It is hoped the panels will generate 24,000 kilowatt hours of electricity for the school, slashing its electricity bill by a considerable amount as well as reducing carbon emissions.
Bambos was also joined by Abdul Abdullahi, Enfield Council’s cabinet member for children’s services, and the pair both spoke to the children at a special assembly. The children got to find out all about local and national government, what is takes to be an MP and how local services are run by the council.
Headteacher David Joyce said: “Bambos Charalambous is a good friend of Garfield Primary School and has hosted year six pupils at Westminster as part of their PSHE (personal, social, health, and economic) learning. We hope to see him again there next summer.”
