Palmers Green is set to be left with just two banks after Halifax confirmed it was closing its branch in Green Lanes.

Next Thursday (9th), Halifax will become the fifth major high street bank to leave N13 in just three years, after Nationwide, Lloyds, HSBC and Barclays all shut their doors – leaving only NatWest and Santander remaining.

In a review of its Palmers Green branch, Halifax reported that customer transactions had dropped by 54% between 2019 and 2024, and that its cash machine withdrawals had dropped 17% over the same period.

The bank also reported that 88% of its Palmers Green customers had either used other Halifax branches, online banking or phone banking in the six-month period up to April 2024, and that the branch had only 265 regular users.

Halifax has advised its customers who wish to continue using in-person banking to visit either its Southgate or Wood Green branches.

The bank explained: “Most customers are now using our mobile banking app, online banking or calling us instead. This means they are using branches, including our Palmers Green branch, much less. Because of this, we’ll be closing our Palmers Green branch.”
