More than 200 homes have now been completed on the first phase of the 10,000-home Edmonton redevelopment zone
More than 200 homes have now been completed at Meridian Water, Enfield Council’s flagship housing project, the civic centre has announced.
The Edmonton redevelopment zone has been more than a decade in planning but is now welcoming a steady flow of new residents after the first arrived last year.
Council leader Ergin Erbil this week met new residents of Pipistrelle House, a 41-home affordable housing block located within Meridian One, the first phase of the project situated to the west of Meridian Water Station. In total across all phases of Meridian Water, 10,000 homes are planned, although these will not all be built for decades.
The leader spent time talking with residents and exploring the new development, which is home to a mixture of private, shared ownership, affordable and council housing.
Cllr Erbil, said: “I am from Edmonton and I am committed to investing in Edmonton. Meridian Water is the beacon that keeps on giving back, offering more than just new homes. We are championing better living standards for those most in need.
“The high-quality homes being delivered at Meridian Water are a leading example of how a local authority, with the support from central government, can create more and better homes in good neighbourhoods for its residents.”
Other projects at Meridian Water are now said by the council to be “progressing at pace”, with the £195million government-funded strategic infrastructure works (SIW) now commencing, which includes new roads, community facilities, the creation of two new parks and a public riverside. In addition, Enfield Construction Skills Academy (ECSA) opened in 2023, has provided construction skill courses to almost 500 learners.
Cllr Erbil also met with apprentices and learners at ECSA and heard first-hand about how Meridian Water’s educational opportunities are “catalysing their career progression”.
