Sixteen ‘days of action’ in Enfield to mark White Ribbon Day

The annual campaign aims to eliminate violence against women and girls

White Ribbon Day

A borough-wide programme of events to mark White Ribbon Day 2025 will be taking place over the next few weeks.

Held every year on 25th November, White Ribbon Day is also known as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

In 2010, Enfield Council became the first London local authority to receive the title of ‘White Ribbon Authority’, which recognises its commitment to eliminating violence against women and girls (VAWG) and the work it is doing to raise awareness.

This year, the council will be running a series of events from Tuesday (25th) until Wednesday, 10th December. The ’16 Days of Action’ will feature free, themed sessions at Ponders End, Craig Park, Bell Lane, and Croyland youth centres.

Each session is “designed by young people, for young people” and will be “focusing on respect, consent, and equality”. They will explore a different theme encouraging young people to share ideas, challenge harmful attitudes and build positive relationships.

The 16 days will culminate in a presentation showcasing some of the young people’s achievements on Wednesday, 10th December at Dugdale Arts Centre in Enfield Town, with industry professionals and council officers in attendance.

The workshops encourage young people to challenge disrespectful or harmful behaviour, act as positive allies, and promote an understanding of the White Ribbon message to end male violence against women and girls.

Abdul Abdullahi, the council’s cabinet member for children’s services, said: “This year’s White Ribbon campaign is about action and youth leadership. Our young people are showing real courage in speaking up for respect, consent, and equality, values that are essential for safe and supportive communities.

“By giving them the tools and confidence to challenge harmful attitudes, we’re helping to create long-term change.”

The council will also host a range of activities, training opportunities and talks for council officers and professional partners, to mark the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

The events are free to attend and no booking is required.
