The pool will reopen next week as part of Edmonton Leisure Centre’s multimillion-pound revamp

The swimming pool at Edmonton Leisure Centre will reopen next week after being closed for a year-and-a-half.
The reopening on Monday (4th August) of the six-lane, 25-metre pool, with a redecorated changing village and new lighting, is part of a £7.5million joint investment between Enfield Council and leisure operator Greenwich Leisure Ltd (GLL), which operates under the brand name Better.
The entire leisure centre at Edmonton Green was temporarily closed in December 2023 upon the transfer of all council leisure centres from previous managers Fusion Lifestyle to GLL, but a series of major maintenance issues were discovered which meant significant repairs would be needed before reopening.
Refurbishment and repair work got underway last autumn when the council struck its £7.5m deal with GLL to fix and upgrade the facility, although it meant the civic centre giving up the lease to the building.
The leisure centre finally reopened to the public at the end of April but extra time was needed to finish work on the swimming pool.
Sabri Ozaydin, the council’s cabinet member for environment and placemaking , said: “We are delighted the swimming pool will be reopened at Edmonton Leisure Centre, following a significant and essential programme of works.
“We are committed to investing in high-quality leisure provision and contribute to the health and wellbeing of residents.”
Vishal Karia, GLL’s partnership manager for Enfield, said: “The improvements at Edmonton Leisure Centre mark a major milestone in our commitment to the community. The new and upgraded swimming pool is designed to meet the needs of local residents, helping them achieve their health and wellbeing goals and create a healthier and more active Edmonton.”
