Tributes have been paid to the chair of the Friends of Bush Hill Park after her death from cancer last week.

Carole Stanley led the voluntary group for seven years and was said to be a “driving force” behind many of the initiatives in the park, such as regular litter picks and revamping the park’s wildlife garden, which became a “lifeline” for residents during the pandemic.

Carole was also the first-ever person to feature in the ‘Enfield Community Heroes‘ series of features published by the Dispatch between 2021 and 2023.

She had been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer two years ago.

Announcing her death on the Friends of Bush Hill Park Facebook group page, Carole Todd wrote: “Carole was the driving force behind many initiatives in the park, including setting up regular litter picks, organising activities with some of the local schools, and ensuring that the areas the friends group look after are well maintained.

“It has been a difficult time for us volunteers without her guidance and knowledge. Until quite recently she was still giving advice via WhatsApp. It is a great shame that she has gone and we will all miss her very much.”
