Enfield Racial Equality Council (EREC) has issued a statement condemning the recent antisemitic attack which took place last weekend.

EREC chair Bevin Betton said in the statement the organisation was “extremely saddened” by the attack on Saturday (9th).

Dylan Ossei, aged 34 and of Hornchurch, pleaded guilty on Monday (11th) to religiously aggravated assault, religiously aggravated fear of violence and religiously aggravated harassment.

It followed an incident in Southbury Road in the early hours of Saturday where a man was assaulted and repeatedly asked if he was Jewish, with threats also made towards others.

Fortunately none of the victims required further medical treatment and were not admitted to hospital.

Bevin said: “Enfield Racial Equality Council is extremely saddened and concerned about the recent antisemitic attacks in Enfield and across London […] Many thanks to the police for their swift action. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.

“Everyone should feel safe in their daily life, regardless of their faith, race or background. There is no place for antisemitism or any form of hatred or discrimination. At this time of heightened tensions, we must look out for
our neighbours and report to the police anything of concern.

“Enfield Racial Equality Council promotes racial equality, equal opportunities and community cohesion. We urge people to stand together against this evil and those who seek to divide us”.
