Enfield Highway pupils named borough’s top dogs of debating

Pupils from Enfield Heights Academy gave a “brilliant, confident and funny argument” about why dogs should be allowed off their leads to win debating competition

A team from an Enfield Highway primary school has been crowned the borough’s debating champions – after arguing in favour of free-roaming dogs.

The Enfield Heights Academy year six team won the Enfield Town Schools’ Partnership (ETSP) debating competition, ‘Great Debate 2025’, by beating 18 other school teams from across the borough.

The team gave a” brilliant, confident and funny argument” about why dogs should be allowed off their leads in public – and completely won over the judges and audience.

The victory comes despite Enfield Heights being one of the borough’s smallest schools.

Headteacher Justyna Powrie said: “As the team delivered their final points, we were the only school to have the audience clapping and cheering before they’d even finished speaking.

“I also love the message this victory sends to our children – we may be a small school, but we can take on the best and win.”

Enfield Heights Academy is part of North Star Community Trust.
