The man is one of 134 people now charged following a string of protests against the government’s proscription of the group

An Enfield man is among the latest group of people charged following protests in Westminster against the proscription of protest group Palestine Action.
A total of 20 people have today (Thursday 2nd) been charged as officers from the Metropolitan Police’s counter terrorism command continue to investigate those arrested and suspected of showing support towards the proscribed group.
Among them is William Crane, aged 78 and from Enfield.
It brings the total number of people charged with an offence of showing support to Palestine Action in London to 134.
Palestine Action was proscribed under the Terrorism Act by then-home secretary Yvette Cooper in July, after she accused the group of “violence and serious criminal damage”.
The latest group of people charged were all previously arrested during a protest on Saturday, 9th August. The charges were authorised against them by the Crown Prosecution Service and all 20 people have been notified of these via postal charge requisition. They are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24th November.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s counter terrorism command, said: “For those people now charged, if convicted, they are facing potentially serious consequences that could impact on their careers and their ability to travel overseas.
“I would urge anyone considering committing a similar offence by coming out and showing support to Palestine Action to reconsider, otherwise you will very likely be arrested, investigated and, as these latest charges show, we are efficiently working with the CPS to bring about prosecutions.”
The consequences for those charged with offences under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act can include a maximum of six months’ imprisonment.
