Enfield pupils discover power of poetry and performance

Schools partnership with Write2Speak sees children explore creative writing, self-expression and performance skills

The Write2Speak Showcase event

Pupils across Enfield are discovering the power of poetry and performance thanks an “exciting new collaboration”.

Enfield Town Schools’ Partnership (ETSP), a collaboration of 19 local schools, has teamed up with Write2Speak, an organisation of professional poets, writers, and actors dedicated to empowering young voices through the art of spoken word.

Over the course of four workshops, students from participating ETSP schools have explored creative writing, self-expression, and performance skills.

Guided by Write2Speak artists, the sessions encourage children to find their voice and write about topics that matter most to them, from community and identity to friendship and the environment.

The project culminated in a recent showcase at Dugdale Arts Centre in Enfield Town, where pupils took to the stage to perform their original pieces in front of families, friends, and school staff.

Marianne Enchill-Balogun, headteacher of Capel Manor Primary School and partnership chair of ETSP, said: “We’re so proud to see our pupils using their voices to express what’s important to them.

“Write2Speak’s workshops have inspired our young people to be brave, creative, and thoughtful – supporting our school’s aim for our pupils to increasingly develop as confident communicators. The showcase was a wonderful opportunity to share their words with the wider community.”
