The aim of the ‘Felix Fresh’ events is to make high-quality food accessible to families across the borough while reducing food waste, reports Maria Hille

A new partnership launched by the borough’s leisure centres operator and London’s largest food redistribution charity will help provide free fresh fruit and vegetables to families across Enfield.
The ‘Felix Fresh’ initiative was launched by GLL and The Felix Project at Southbury Leisure Centre on Tuesday (3rd) at an event also attended by Enfield Council’s cabinet member for placemaking Sabri Ozaydin and head of leisure Matthew Watts.
During the launch event, up to five tonnes of fresh fruit, vegetables and Hello Fresh parcels were handed out to over 200 people in two hours thanks to the efforts of 21 volunteers from GLL, The Felix Project and local partners.
GLL partnership manager Vishal Karia said: “Felix Fresh is about more than food, it’s about community and by working together, we can make a real difference to local families who need support.
“The positive atmosphere throughout the day reinforced Southbury Leisure Centre’s role as a hub for the whole community.”
A follow-up event will take place at Albany Leisure Centre in March, with distributions planned to follow on a bi-monthly basis at different sites with the aim of making high-quality food accessible to families across the borough while reducing food waste.
Dan Hobson from The Felix Project said: “We are delighted to partner with GLL, distributing food to the local community. We will be doing these events monthly, whatever the weather, helping the people of Enfield and combating food waste.”
The Felix Project charity first opened its depot at Great Cambridge Industrial Estate in Enfield in 2017. Since then, the charity has been delivering surplus food from supermarkets, farms, and suppliers that would otherwise be thrown away to community organisations across North London and beyond.
