Enfield North MP Feryal Clark has left her role as a junior minister in the Labour government following Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s reshuffle.

Clark was appointed shortly after the July 2024 election to serve as a minister for AI and digital government, within the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

A reshuffle took place over the weekend, however, as Starmer refreshed his top team, and Clark confirmed on Sunday (7th) via social media that she would “step back” from her role.

While it remains unclear why she has departed the government, in a statement Clark said she was “proud to help position the UK as a global leader in AI and digital transformation” and added: “My personal highlight has been establishing the Local Government Digital and AI Unit – a new centre for expertise to give councils the tools and knowledge they need to harness innovation for better local services.

“I am hugely grateful to the brilliant civil servants, industry leaders and partners who make this work possible.”

Starmer’s reshuffle also saw former Enfield Council leader Nesil Caliskan, now an MP for Barking in East London, appointed as a government whip.
