Barrowell Green in Winchmore Hill will be closed for two weeks in September

One of the borough’s two public recycling centres will close temporarily next month for maintenance work, Enfield Council has confirmed.
From Saturday, 13th September until Tuesday, 30th September inclusive, Barrowell Green Recycling Centre in Winchmore Hill will close for “essential resurfacing work”.
The site surface at Barrowell Green is said to be in “poor condition” with damaged concrete and uneven surfaces from continuous use affecting drainage systems.
The centre will reopen again on Wednesday, 1st October at 8am.
During the closure period, residents will still be able to use North London Waste Authority’s (NLWA) reuse and recycling centre at Edmonton Eco Park, which opened last year.
Rick Jewell, the council’s cabinet member for waste, said: “I am pleased the council is investing in Barrowell Green Recycling Centre.
“The centre is in need of essential resurfacing work so it can operate safely, and there is no better time to carry out the work than in September, where historically visitor numbers are lower than other months of the year.
“While Barrowell Green is closed, I would advise residents to dispose of their household waste at Edmonton Eco Park or book a free doorstep bulky waste collection on the council’s website.
“We know that a greener, cleaner Enfield is a top priority for residents. We will take the strongest possible action against anyone who dumps their rubbish on our streets.”
Pedestrians and cyclists are also welcome to use Edmonton Eco Park with drop-off zones for recycling that are segregated from car and van users.
Residents who wish to dispose of their household waste at the site using a van or trailer are advised to book in advance using NLWA’s online van booking system.
Over 150 different items can be brought to the Edmonton site including household recycling, large and small electrical appliances and garden waste, which is open seven days a week (including bank holidays) from 8am to 8pm.
