The facility forms part of the wider £1.5billion project led by North London Waste Authority that also includes a new incinerator

A reuse and recycling centre has opened at Edmonton Eco Park as part of a £1.5billion project to build new waste facilities on the site.
North London Waste Authority (NLWA) officially opened the Edmonton Eco Park Reuse and Recycling Centre this week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring representatives of Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest councils.
The facility allows residents to dispose of recyclable items that are not accepted as part of household waste collections such as electrical devices, furniture and appliances, while also accepting items such as carpets, polystyrene and vapes.
Enfield residents now have a choice of two recycling centres to choose form when disposing of these types of items, with Edmonton Eco Park Reuse and Recycling Centre joining Barrowell Green Recycling Centre in Winchmore Hill.
Rick Jewell, cabinet member for transport and waste at Enfield Council, spoke at Monday’s launch event to thank North London Waste Authority for providing key infrastructure that “supports the circular economy”.
He went on to say the new facility was a “welcome addition in Enfield” as the delivery of this site supports the council’s commitment “to provide more reuse and recycling facilities in the borough by 2025”.
The design of the centre seeks to improve the user experience, with a split-level design of bays avoiding the use of stairs, and a roof and exterior fins to provide shelter for operatives and visitors from the elements.
Work on a new, larger incinerator at Edmonton Eco Park is continuing on an adjacent site to the new recycling centre, as part of the North London Heat and Power Project. A resource recovery facility, where recyclable items collected as part of household waste collections across seven North London boroughs, is also being built there, alongside a new visitor centre.
While the site in Advent Way has been a dedicated waste management site for over 50 years, this week is the first time ever that residents have been able to bring their waste directly to Edmonton Eco Park to be recycled.
NLWA’s managing director, Martin Capstick, said: “The project to complete the recycling facilities has provided London with the most advanced facility of its kind and shows how public facilities can be connected into waste management sites to provide better environmental and operational outcomes for councils.”
Residents are invited to bring over 150 different items including household recycling, large and small electrical appliances and garden waste to the reuse and recycling centre.
There are ten reverse car parking spaces and an accessible parking bay included on the interior car deck. Pedestrians and cyclists are also welcomed on the site with drop-off zones for recycling segregated from car and van users.
A booking system is in place as the operator, London Energy Ltd, increases traffic through the site on a trial basis. The system is expected to be retired in the first few months of operations.
The NLWA website lists all the accepted items and provides details on how to book a visit to Edmonton Eco Park Reuse and Recycling Centre:
