Third round of Meridian Water community grants scheme announced

So far £700,000 has been handed out with groups invited to apply for grants of up to £10,000 each

Enfield Council has announced the launch of the third round of its Meridian Water Community Chest grants programme.

The scheme provides local not-for-profit organisations and charities with the opportunity to apply for up to £10,000 in funding to bring their community projects to life.

The Community Chest aims to “empower residents and community groups to make a real difference across Edmonton, whether through improving community spaces, creating local job opportunities, supporting young people, or tackling health and wellbeing challenges”.

Round two recently saw a total of £330,000 handed to 24 projects, helping to transform the local area through a wide range of different activities, including football and basketball training for young people, repairing and refurbishing local church halls, the creation of community gardens, and poetry workshops designed to inspire creativity and wellbeing.

The first round, back in 2022, saw £317,000 given away to 19 projects, including the provision of long-term bicycle loans and cycling lessons, the creation of a community mural, a new art club, weekly theatre classes for disabled people and the creation of new sensory rooms in primary schools.

Council leader Ergin Erbil said: “Round two of the Community Chest showed just how much energy, creativity, and passion there is in Edmonton. From youth initiatives to health and wellbeing programmes, these projects are helping to build stronger, more connected communities and to support our aim of making Enfield a safer, cleaner and more inclusive place to live, work and study in.

“We can’t wait to see what new ideas come forward for round three.”

Applications are now open until 5pm on Wednesday, 31st December. All eligible organisations are invited to apply for grants of up to £10,000 to support projects that improve a physical area within the community; create opportunities for local people through skills, training, or employment; improve life chances for young people or address health inequalities.
