A new programme aims to give people the skills to repair their own clothes and cut waste in the process

Edmonton residents have taken part in a sewing and mending workshop supported by a community group and an environmental charity.
Angel Edmonton community group React teamed up with Forest Recycling Project (FRP) to host a ‘Patch and Repurpose’ workshop on Saturday (27th) at Fore Street Library.
The event was support with funding North London Waste Authority’s North London Community Fund, as part of a programme aiming to teach sewing and upcycling skills to at least 60 residents in Enfield and Waltham Forest, across more than 80 workshops.
FRP chief executive Alison Griffin said: “Forest Recycling Project is passionate about helping local people to reduce their waste, and are delighted to deliver the Patch and Repurpose workshops with our partners, teaching local people to mend, create and upcycle textile items so that they can save things from waste.
“Saturday’s event gave us the opportunity to tell many more of the Upper Edmonton community about this work and let them have a go. Everyone is also welcome to get involved in our other projects and wider work – please do look us up to find out more.”
React vice-chair Cellina Momodu Doswell added: “The collaboration between React and Forest Recycling Project will continue to showcase creative ways to repurpose and reduce textile waste in Upper Edmonton.”
