A driver was arrested after a car hit a group of people standing outside a wedding venue in Edmonton at the weekend.

The group were standing outside Prince and Princess Wedding Hall in Princes Road on Saturday (30th May) at around 11.16pm when the car accelerated towards them.

Eight people, including a four-year-old girl, were injured. Although the injuries were described as “non-life threatening” by police, many of those hit are understood to have suffered broken bones, including a woman who had fractures to both legs.

CCTV footage of the incident posted to social media shows the vehicle being steered towards the group, who were standing on the pavement. It then accelerates before coming to a stop as it hits the crowd and then the building, before reversing and coming to a stop.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, who treated eight people at the scene.

“Two women, aged 54 and 38, and a four-year-old girl were taken to hospital. Their injuries have since been assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

“A 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to custody and has since been released on police bail, pending further investigation.”

Anyone with information who can assist the police investigation is asked to call 101 quoting reference CAD 9680/30MAY26.
