Enfield filmmaker’s daring take on the dating world

Katie Organ, the producer of a new short film offering a “hilarious take on the modern dating landscape”, explains how it all came about

The Bell Never Rings Again

As a filmmaker born and raised in Enfield, my journey into the world of storytelling began at Chace Community School, where I first studied film and media for A-Levels.

It was there that my passion for film ignited, and I realised that storytelling wasn’t just something I enjoyed—it was what I wanted my career to be. From those early days of learning about cinema to producing my latest short film, The Bell Never Rings Again, my path has been full of exciting milestones.

I’m incredibly proud to share that last week, The Bell Never Rings Again was released globally through Omeleto, the world’s largest YouTube channel for short films, reaching an audience of 3.8 million subscribers. It’s surreal to see something that started as a small, independent project reach such a large, global platform.

Created in partnership with leading ‘in real life’ dating organisations Pearº and Thursday, the short film offers a fresh, hilarious take on the modern dating landscape. Seamlessly weaving through genres including action, sci-fi, and even featuring an epic musical number, the comedic short film stands out with its bold, original concept and truly unique voice.

Written and directed by Matthias Fuchez, with an original soundtrack by him as well, the film blends multiple genres—comedy, action, sci-fi—with a bit of musical flair thrown in for good measure. As the producer, one of the most rewarding aspects of this project was working alongside a talented team, many of whom are from Enfield too!

It all began with a chance encounter while I was looking for a rehearsal space. I bumped into a wonderful local choreographer, and after a chat, we stayed in touch. I mentioned we were looking for background actors who could dance. Just weeks before the shoot, our choreographer and lead dancer had to pull out. But in stepped Jo Bakhurst, who saved the day—and brought with her six incredibly talented women, all from Enfield, to form the ensemble of the film, featuring heavily in the musical section.

I always try to bring together local talent and was even able to cast my mum in the film so this collaboration made the project even more special!

In addition to the local crew, we were fortunate to work with a phenomenal cast, including Tom Byrne (The CrownThe Persian Version) and Ella Augustin (PennyworthMarriage). Their performances added a fantastic energy to the film, helping to bring the story to life.

The film has been incredibly well-received, earning 16 official selections and semi-finalist nominations at some of the world’s top BIFA, BAFTA, and Oscar-qualifying festivals. I’m especially proud to see The Bell Never Rings Again resonate with viewers and spark laughter.

At its core, the film is about the absurdity of our anxieties and how our minds can spiral when we least expect it—something I think we can all relate to. As a filmmaker, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing your vision connect with an audience, and this film has exceeded all my expectations.

Looking back to my days at Chace Community School, it’s amazing to see how far I’ve come since those early days of film studies. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved with The Bell Never Rings Again, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us next as my team are in development of our first feature film!

I’m thrilled to share this film with my local community, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it. You can watch the film now on Omeleto, and I encourage everyone to take a moment to enjoy the fun, the chaos, and the comedy we’ve packed into this wild ride.
