Get the latest news as it arrives from the count with 63 councillors due to be elected to Enfield Council by the end of Friday afternoon

The votes have been cast and counting will soon begin at Enfield Civic Centre with 63 councillors set to be elected to represent the borough for the next four years.
The Dispatch will be updating this page with live reaction and results as they come in throughout today (Friday 8th), with counting starting at 11am and the first of 25 ward results expected to be announced from around 1pm.
The final results are due at around 5pm but could easily be delayed.
The key numbers
There are a total of 333 candidates standing across 25 wards, with some wards electing two councillors and others three. A total of 63 councillors will be elected by the end of today.
At the last Enfield election in 2022, Labour won 38 seats and the Conservatives won 25, giving Labour full control of the council.
The magic number of councillors needed for any single party to win a majority is 32. If no single party can reach this number, parties will need to negotiate with each other and potentially form a political alliance to be able to run the council effectively.
Enfield has traditionally been split between Labour dominance in the east and Conservative success in the west, but the fragmented politics of 2026 is now likely to see this duopoly fractured as candidates from Reform UK, the Greens, Liberal Democrats and Enfield Community Independents look to gain representation.

10:30am: Counting begins
The verification process for all 25 wards began at 9am, which is when checks are made on ballots to ensure votes are valid before they begin counting.
Some wards have now finished this process and have begun counting. The first of these are Bowes, Grange Park, Bullsmoor, Ridgeway, Upper Edmonton and Enfield Lock wards. These will now likely be the first to declare their results.
11am: Tory leader ‘hopeful’
Alessandro Georgiou, leader of the opposition Conservative group at Enfield Council, tells the Dispatch: “So far it is looking good, clearly it is tight in a whole series of marginals. In some wards Labour didn’t expect we are coming through the middle.
“It is too too early to tell but I hope by the end of the day we have a new Conservative administration.”
12pm: Smaller parties eyeing upsets
The Dispatch has spoken to representatives from both the Greens and Enfield Community Independents (ECI), the left-wing group backed by Jeremy Corbyn.
Katie Knight, a Green Party candidate in Southgate, said: “I think it is too close to call but I think we might get some turn surprise councillors in non-target wards [the Greens have mainly targeted Southgate].
“The work we have done in Southgate is showing but whether we win I don’t know. Our volunteers have put in a huge amount of effort.”
Khalid Sakur, an ECI candidate for Upper Edmonton ward, said: “We did a massive ‘get out the vote’ operation [on polling day yesterday]. Everyone is energised.
“One guy was voting for the very first time, and that is what we are trying to do – get more people interested in politics.”
Does Khalid think ECI can gain representation at the civic centre? “There is a lot of mixed voting [candidates from different parties getting votes on the same ballot paper] so we can’t tell at the moment. We had wonderful enthusiasm and the fact we have engaged so many people is fantastic, whatever the result.”
