Man charged with drink driving after car plummets into pedestrian subway

A man has been charged with offences including drink driving after a road traffic collision in Edmonton that led to a car landing inside an pedestrian subway.

Steven Spence, aged 47 and of Notley Road, Braintree, has been charged with drink driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and possession of Class A drugs. He will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29th July.

The collision involving two cars took place at the Bull Lane and North Circular Road junction, close to North Middlesex University Hospital, on Saturday (13th) at around 8.30pm.

One of the cars, a white Ford Focus, slammed through a couple of metal fences before plummeting into a pedestrian subway that crosses underneath the North Circular.

According to the Metropolitan Police, there were no reports of any serious injuries.

A man who saw the aftermath of the collision told the Dispatch he thought it was “dreadful”.

It was the second serious collision on the North Circular Road in Enfield in the space of two months. On 21st May, a car plunged into the wall of a dental clinic in Palmers Green.
