Traffic disruption until end of August on major Enfield road as gas works continue

New pipes are being installed along Slades Hill

The junction of Slades Hill and Chase Ridings will be closed for three weeks

Major traffic disruption is expected in Enfield until the end of August vehicles as gas works continue.

Work got underway in June to replace ageing gas pipes which run under Slades Hill in Enfield as engineers from Cadent, the UK’s largest gas distribution network, take action to secure “safe and reliable” gas supplies.

The gas mains replacement activity involves installing 380 metres of new pipes which the company says will last for decades, future-proofing the local network.

From today (Tuesday 6th) a road closure has been installed at the junction of Slades Hill and Chase Ridings, with a diversion route in place. This closure will continue until the project is finished at the end of August.

A bus stop has also been taken out of action during this period.

Project supervisor Robert Ashdown said: “We have a responsibility to make sure every property that uses gas has access to it 24/7, 365 days a year and these essential works will mean that we continue to deliver on that promise.

“While there is never a great time to carry out this type of work, we have tried to ensure that traffic can continue to flow using temporary traffic lights, but this closure is needed so that the final section of work can be carried out safely.

“We will be in regular contact with the Highways Authority to keep them updated on our work which we will always aim to complete as quickly and as safely as we can.”
