Police have confirmed a second man has now died following a car crash in Southgate last month – and that the two victims are brothers.

Passengers William and Patrick Cassidy both died in hospital from the injuries they sustained in the collision between their car and a pedestrian in Chase Side in the early hours of Saturday, 20th September.

William, 48, died two days later, while his brother Patrick, 31, died ten days later.

Three other passengers in the vehicle – a man in his 20s and two women in their 30s – were taken to hospital. Their injuries have been assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 30s, was also taken to hospital. His injuries were assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested the day after the crash, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving with a specified controlled drug above the prescribed limit. She was further arrested in interview for failing to stop. However, she has been released on bail while enquiries continue. The woman is not related to any of the occupants of the vehicle.

The police continue to appeal for information from any witnesses.

Detective Inspector Simon Ager said: “This devastating collision has now claimed two lives. Our thoughts remain with the men’s loved ones.

“We are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Any information you have could be vital in our investigation.

“I am asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have captured CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage, to contact police as this information could be crucial.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 259/20SEP. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via their website.

The death of both Cassidy brothers, as well as the death of a 17-year-old boy in Bullsmoor last night (Sunday 4th), brings the total number of people on Enfield’s roads this year to seven.
