Appeal for witnesses after car passenger killed in Southgate crash

A woman was arrested on suspicion of driving with a controlled drug above the prescribed limit

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision in Southgate which killed the passenger of a car – while leaving another in a life-threatening condition.

The incident happened at approximately 0.40am on Saturday, 20th September in Chase Side. The collision involved a car and a pedestrian, with several people taken to hospital.

A 48-year-old man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, has since died in hospital. Another passenger, a man aged 31, remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested last Monday (21st) on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving with a specified controlled drug above the prescribed limit. She was further arrested in interview for failing to stop but has now been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Simon Ager, from the Met’s serious collisions investigation unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this devastating loss.

“We are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. Any information you have could be vital in our investigation.

“I am asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have captured CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to contact police as this information could be crucial.”
