Local runners are being encouraged to sign up for a 10k race in the Lea Valley through Edmonton.

Run the River is a flat, beginner-friendly off-road course, starting and finishing at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, running along the River Lee Navigation for most of its route.

Organised by Edmonton Running Club, the event can be summed up with a quote from one of last year’s participants: “It was only my second 10k and it was so well organised and enjoyable. The marshals were excellent at supporting and encouraging us on the course. It was a lovely atmosphere celebrating everyone from first place to last place and all of us in between.”

Race director Gareth Jones added: “With fabulous support from around 70 Edmonton Running Club volunteers along the route you will definitely be cheered from start to finish. With a finishers medal, quality T-shirt and goody bag waiting for you at the finish line to round off this fantastic experience, what are you waiting for?!

This year’s race will start at 10.30am on Sunday, 12th October. Entry is £29 for non-affiliated runners and £27 for those who are affiliated.

A separate children’s fun run for those aged under 16 is also being hosted this year. Starting at 10am, it will follow a one-mile course and can be entered on the day for just £2. All participants receive a medal, snack and water.
