A Southgate primary school football team has been crowned national champions.

Wolfson Hillel Primary School triumphed at the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA) Pokémon Primary Schools’ Cup Final 2025, held last Friday (16th) at Stoke City FC’s Bet365 Stadium.

After a journey that began with over 5,000 schools across the country, Wolfson Hillel rose to the very top, claiming victory in the national finals with a 2-0 win over Liverpool’s Booker Avenue Junior School in a thrilling match.

The Wolfson Hillel squad, coached by PE teacher Adam Warner and parent Rob Glass, played in their sky blue and white kit and showed “resilience and brilliance throughout the day”.

Earlier in the year the team won at borough, county, and regional levels — having first claimed the Enfield title, then the Middlesex championship, followed by victory in the south-east finals, before reaching and conquering the national stage.

Coach Warner said: “I couldn’t be prouder of this group of players. They’ve worked incredibly hard all season and shown real character, teamwork, and sportsmanship at every stage. To come through a tournament that started with 5,000 schools and lift the national trophy is an unbelievable achievement. They’ve made their school — and all of us — incredibly proud.”

The winning team consisted of Noah Beckwith (in goal), Callum Livingstone, Asher Kramer, Max Reynolds (team captain), Jonathan Benjamin, Daniel Ward, Eli Aarami, Robert Fitch, Cooper Glass and Leo Abrahams.

Captain Max said: “It feels amazing to win the whole tournament. We’ve trained so hard together and supported each other all the way. Every player gave everything for the team, and to lift the trophy at the end with all my friends was the best feeling ever. I’m so proud of what we’ve done — it’s something we’ll never forget. I want to thank Mr Warner and Rob Glass for being brilliant coaches!”

Headteacher Alex Kingston added: “I’m incredibly proud of our year six football team for being crowned national champions. This amazing achievement reflects years of hard work, dedication, and a special bond between the boys. Their friendship, teamwork, and determination have been the foundation of their success — and what a way to end their primary school journey together.

“A huge thank you to our brilliant coaches, Adam and Rob, and to all the parents for their unwavering support. As a school, we’ve worked hard to strengthen our sports provision, and this victory is a wonderful reflection of that. The pride across our whole school community is immense — we are all inspired by what the team has achieved.”
