Continuing success on and off field expected this summer, writes James Quinlan

While the 2024 season started very brightly for Enfield Cricket Club, it ended without promotion for any of our teams.
Signs of growth were there, however; the introduction of a fourth XI; the first female cricketer to play senior cricket for the club; the third XI pushing for promotion until the penultimate weekend of the season; and a growing sense of togetherness at the club.
As the 2025 season gets underway, we are looking to build on those successes.
We have had a great winter, especially the training of our junior players with a strengthened junior coaching team. We hope that this will continue the growth of our junior section and the pathway of youngsters into senior cricket. We offer training to juniors from five to 18 years old, with matches for those from under-nines upwards. Our team of qualified coaches provide excellent support and training for all of our young cricketers.
Our seniors have also been hard at work and we have strengthened our playing cohort, including welcoming back our overseas player from last season. Alongside this, we have also partnered with PD Next Generation Cricket Academy to coach our first, second and under-19 teams. We are really excited by this opportunity as it brings ex-England international Phillip DeFreitas and former Enfield CC first XI player, Steve Humphries, into the club. Their expertise can only bring good things.
All of this is breeding a great deal of positivity around the club for this summer. We have entered four senior teams into league cricket again, as well as our Middlesex Development League (under-21) side, but we are also delighted to have re-introduced our under-19 team for this summer. We are hopeful of plenty of strong performances this season and, perhaps, even a promotion to boot!
Senior fixtures began at the end of April, with league games commencing this Saturday, 10th May. If you’d like to come along to watch, you would be more than welcome! Friendlies typically start at 1pm, with league games beginning at 12.30pm.
Off the field, the club itself is doing very well, helped by the ongoing success of our own football team, Enfield Old Grammarians FC! We have a thriving social membership, who enjoy spending their weekends watching the cricket and the social calendar too. In addition, our tennis section continues to grow; the draw of the fantastic grass courts is too much to resist!
To support the growth of our club and the offering we provide to our junior cricketers, we are always on the lookout for new members and sponsors.
