A woman who fell on to railway tracks at Bowes Park Station this morning (Monday 20th) suffered “potentially life-changing injuries” after being trapped under a train.

At around 8.30am the Dispatch understands that the woman fell from the northern end of the southbound platform just as a train was pulling into the station.

A passenger who was on board said the train came to an “abrupt stop” and was then held just outside the station for 20 minutes until an announcement was made that someone had fallen on to the tracks and was now trapped underneath.

Hundreds of passengers were forced to exit through the front carriage, by which time emergency services were on the scene.

“When we got off the train and walked past she [the woman] was just screaming in agony,” the passenger, who did not wish to be named, told the Dispatch.

“There was just a long line of people being ushered along. The emergency services were there really, really quickly.”

It’s unclear how long the woman was trapped but she was eventually taken to hospital, where she continues to receive treatment.

Asked for an update, a British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at around 8.30am today to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Bowes Park railway station. Officers responded with paramedics and a person was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: “We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer and paramedics from our hazardous area response team. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a patient at the scene and took them to hospital as a priority.”

Rail services into Moorgate were cancelled following the incident before lines reopened a few hours later – but with some disruption still expected this afternoon.
