A Southgate nightclub was said to be a catalyst for the scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s

An all-day festival in Palmers Green this summer will celebrate the jazz funk, disco and soul music scenes of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Former My Time Café owner and soulboy Brian Lewis is organising the Saturday Love All Dayer event in Broomfield Park on 22nd June to “bring back the sounds” of the jazz funk, soul, disco, funk, soulful house and rare groove era and also celebrate the pivotal role a Southgate nightclub played in it.

Brian explains: “It was quite a niche scene which was born out of the music of early American jazz funk pioneers.

“Clubs like The Royalty in Southgate were the catalyst for us being able to engage in the music and carried the scene, leading to the ‘all dayers’ and ‘soul weekenders’.

“The Saturday Love All Dayer event in Broomfield Park will bring back those sounds, bands and Djs to get us back into the vibe of those days.”

The event will also have food stalls, a bar, record stall, and more.

The Saturday Love All Dayer takes place Broomfield Bowl (the old bowling green in Broomfield Park) on Saturday 22nd June from 2pm. For more information and to buy tickets:
