It will host the borough’s first-ever indoor rowing league

A new indoor rowing hub has been unveiled to support the expansion of the sport in Enfield for young people.
The hub at Nexus in Bury Street, Edmonton, will host the borough’s first-ever indoor rowing league, providing regular inter-school competitions and opportunities to develop skills.
The launch event earlier this month welcomed three new schools to the Enfield Youth Rowing programme, increasing the number of participating schools to seven.
The schools now involved are Lea Valley Academy, The Latymer School, Bishop Stopford’s School, Enfield County School, St Anne’s Catholic High School for Girls, Enfield Grammar School and Oasis Academy Enfield.
On the day, an artwork commissioned to represent the aspirations of the borough’s young rowers was revealed by artist Chikaora Obiora.
Luca Ferraro, an under-23s world champion British rower and former student of The Latymer School, attended the launch event as the official champion of the Enfield Youth Rowing programme.

Maria Alexandrou, the council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “The new indoor rowing hub is a great stepping stone to providing schools and young people with an opportunity to try a new sport that most would not get to try otherwise.
“As well as friendly competition, this is a great way to encourage social skills and team work amongst the students!”
Chris Dey, cabinet member for children’s services, added: “Enfield Council’s Nexus and Active Enfield teams are working together to expand access to high-quality sporting opportunities, strengthening connections between schools and ensuring that even more young people across Enfield can benefit from the life-changing opportunities that sport can provide.”
Active Enfield is delivered by Enfield Council’s sport and leisure team, offering sports and health activities for young people, adults and over-50s in the borough.
