LocalMotion Enfield co-ordinator Paul Everitt invites local residents to get involved with the charity’s board of trustees

If you’ve ever felt that decision-making in Enfield doesn’t always reflect the people who actually live here, this might be your moment to help change that.
LocalMotion Enfield – a dynamic, community-led charity tackling inequality and championing local voice – is inviting residents to join our board of trustees.
We’re not just looking for the ‘usual suspects’ – in fact, we’re hoping to find people who don’t usually see themselves sitting around a boardroom table.
LocalMotion Enfield is part of a bold national movement working to shift power into the hands of communities. Our mission focuses on strengthening grassroots leadership, addressing deep-rooted inequalities, and creating fairer systems around housing, employment, poverty, race and mental health. But to do this effectively, we need people on our board who truly understand everyday life in Enfield.
Crucially, we’re looking for people who are curious, open to learning, and excited about developing new ways of thinking. You don’t need to arrive with all the answers – just a willingness to grow, challenge old assumptions, and be part of a learning community that approaches problems creatively and collaboratively.
You also don’t need to be a lawyer, accountant or chief executive to be a trustee. You don’t need decades of experience. You don’t even need a CV. What you do need is belief in fairness, a passion for your community, and the confidence to share your lived experience.
LocalMotion Enfield will provide training, support, and a welcoming environment where your voice genuinely matters and where your personal development is valued.
Trustees meet only four times a year, usually during the day, and the role is strategic rather than operational. You won’t be expected to run projects or handle day-to-day work. Instead, you’ll help shape the charity’s direction, ensure strong governance, and make sure resources are used responsibly to benefit local people.
It’s an opportunity to make real, long-lasting change in Enfield without needing huge amounts of time.
LocalMotion Enfield is especially keen to hear from people who are often left out of leadership roles – young people, people from racialised communities, working-class residents, carers, disabled people, parents, community volunteers, people with lived experience of inequality, and anyone who has ever felt that ‘people like me don’t end up in positions like that’.
If you feel a spark reading this – even if you’re not sure you’re ‘qualified’ enough – take the first step by sending a short statement of up to two pages and an optional CV to [email protected].
Informal chats are warmly welcomed. This is your chance to help shape a more just, confident and vibrant Enfield – not by being an expert, but simply by being you.
