Hundreds of Enfield residents are enjoying healthier, happier and more connected lives thanks to the success of UCAN Enfield, a borough-wide health and wellbeing programme that has exceeded expectations during its first year.

Since launching in June 2025, UCAN Enfield has received an impressive 1,384 referrals, exceeding its target by 84% and demonstrating the growing need for preventative health and wellbeing support across the borough.

Funded by the adult social care service at Enfield Council and led by Age UK Enfield, UCAN is delivered in partnership with local organisations including Mind in Enfield and Barnet, One-to-One Enfield, Middlesex Association for the Blind, Wellbeing Connect Services, Bread n Butter and Cooking Champions, the programme helps adults aged 18 and over improve their physical health, mental wellbeing and independence.

One of the programme’s most popular elements has been its focus on healthy eating and nutrition. UCAN delivers practical cookery sessions where participants learn how to prepare healthy, affordable meals while developing new skills and confidence in the kitchen.

The sessions are interactive, social and fun, giving residents the chance not only to cook but also to taste a variety of nutritious dishes from different cultures. Participants leave with recipes, healthy eating tips and inspiration to make positive changes at home.

Alongside healthy eating, residents can access exercise classes, falls prevention activities, mental health support, autism services, support for people with visual impairments, wellbeing groups and personalised one-to-one guidance. The programme is designed to help people take control of their health before problems become more serious.

UCAN also places a strong emphasis on community connection. Many participants report making new friends, feeling less isolated and becoming more confident to engage in local activities. For some, attending a cookery class or wellbeing session is the first step towards a healthier and more active lifestyle.

Whether someone wants to eat more healthily, become more active, improve their wellbeing or connect with others, UCAN Enfield is proving that with the right support, positive change is possible for everyone.

UCAN Enfield accepts referrals from residents, family members, carers, GPs, social prescribers and community organisations. To access support:
