A driver fled the scene after smashing a “stolen” car into a block of flats during a police chase in Enfield Town.

The incident last Friday (12th) left a block of flats on the corner of Churchbury Lane and Tenniswood Road badly damaged, with a ground floor wall and window partially caved in.

Tyre marks on the grass outside the property suggest the vehicle – a 4×4 – narrowly missed a bollard and a street sign before crashing into the corner of the building.

However, there were no reports of any injuries.

The corner of the residential block is now being propped up by scaffolding poles and surrounded by fencing.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be stolen on Russell Road, Enfield, at about 11.30am on Friday, 12th April.

“The driver failed to stop for police and a pursuit was authorised. A short while later, the vehicle collided with a residential property on Churchbury Lane, Enfield.

“The driver ran from the scene.

“Nobody was injured as a result of the collision and enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 2684/12APR.
