Dugdale Arts Centre will next month be screening an award-winning film made by two Enfield producers.

The Spin is a comedy following two best friends and music lovers on a search for a highly-valuable vinyl record in Northern Ireland.

The film is light-hearted, with a soundtrack of folk and country music. It stars Dermot and Elvis, played by Game of Thrones actor Brenock O’Connor and Owen Colgan, known for his role in Hardy Bucks.

The plot follows the two close friends struggling to keep hold of their record shop, Boneyard Records, and, facing eviction, they embark on a lucrative quest for the sought-after vinyl.

On the way, the pair comes across characters who help form a unique friendship with Dermot and Elvis.

The Spin is directed by Michael Head, who previously directed Bermondsey and The Fall of the Roman Empire, with producers Ismail Ismail and Jake Jakcovides being local to Enfield, having met at Winchmore School.

The Dispatch spoke to Ismail regarding his experience working on his first film production. Asked about the roots of the film being close to Northern Irish culture, he said: “It was great to keep to the authentic folk music and I will be working on more Irish productions in the future.”

On working with Brenock O’Connor and Owen Colgan, Ismail added: “Their chemistry is fantastic, and they are always pushing each other and making themselves, and us, laugh. It was such fun.”

The Spin also stars Love Island contestant and Irish TV personality Maura Higgins in the role of Rose, in her first venture into acting, alongside Pussycat Dolls singer Kimberley Wyatt as Dallas.

Leah O’Rourke and Tara Lynne O’Neil, who both worked together on Derry Girls, also joined the cast.

The film premiered in Ireland and has already racked up several awards internationally, including ‘best feature film’ at festivals in Dublin, Belfast, Omaha, Toronto, Chicago and Bremen.

The Spin will be screening at Dugdale Arts Centre in Enfield Town on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th April. For more information and to book tickets:
