Enfield branch of Corbyn-backed political party launches for first time

Your Party in Enfield will be “active in the community” and “not just be another electoral party”

A left-wing political party has launched its first branch in Enfield.

Your Party, launched by former Labour MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana last year, has officially moved into the borough for the first time and will soon be campaigning under the banner of ‘Your Party in Enfield’.

One of the Enfield branch officers of Your Party will be Khalid Sadur, an accountant from Edmonton who founded a local left-wing party, Enfield Community Independents (ECI), two years ago.

ECI stood a large slate of candidates at this year’s local election but failed to poll higher than third place in any ward, while finishing sixth for vote share across the whole borough. This was despite a big campaigning effort, including a billboard advert overlooking a busy road junction in Angel Edmonton.

With the establishment of Your Party in Enfield, ECI’s future is now uncertain. It is possible it will revert back to being an action group rather than a political party standing candidates.

Welcoming the launch of Your Party in Enfield, Khalid said: “Your Party will be active within the community within Enfield and will not just be another electoral party.

“We want to do politics differently and help people on the ground who are suffering from years of austerity and the current cost of living crisis.

“It is time Enfield had real change and a party beyond Labour and the Tories.”
