Chris Silwood from Enfield Camera Club introduces its new photography exhibition at Enfield Chase Station

Enfield Camera Club was established in 1950 and meets every Thursday at Trinity Church in Enfield Town.
Until the onset of the pandemic nearly three years ago, the club put on exhibitions every year at the Dugdale Centre in November. This year marks the return of our annual showcase but, because of the ongoing development works at the Dugdale, it was not possible to host it there.
Instead, thanks to a fortuitous chance conversation with the owner of Leo’s Coffee Shop at Enfield Chase Station, I was put in touch with Dave Cockle of The Enfield Society. Dave very kindly agreed to facilitate a club exhibition in the waiting room on the platform. This was launched last month and has received great feedback so far, not least because it provides visual stimulation while people are bored waiting for their train!
With regards to Enfield Camera Club itself, we are affiliated to The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain through the East Anglian Federation (EAF). At the time of the transition from traditional processing methods to digital photography, the club was given a National Lottery grant award of £3,000 which allowed us to purchase new hardware and software.
Our club members range from beginners to very advanced and experienced professional photographers, several of whom have been members for over 25 years. Our meetings are light-hearted and friendly with plenty of time for discussion. The workshops are particularly good fun.
It goes without saying that new members are welcome, with typical introductory conversations ranging from camera ownership to software used, plus whether members are coming to the pub afterwards! We attempt to stick to the tried and trusted programme of guest presentations, interspersed with digital and print competitions. No ‘weighting’ as such applies to the type of camera used, with members still employing equipment ranging from basic compacts to SLR, 4/3 mirrorless and rangefinders. Aside from that, the club competes in a range of local competitions on a regular basis, as well as the annual EAF inter-club digital and print championships.
Our events secretary organises a wide range of eclectic destinations for photography trips, such as The English School of Falconry, Woburn Safari Park, Kew Gardens, Southwark Cathedral and summer evening walks around the Lea Valley and elsewhere.
Enfield Camera Club meets every Thursday evening, 8-10pm, aside from July and August. Membership costs £45 per year (visitors can pay £1). For more information:
