Pupils from Enfield County School for Girls are taking part in Home Instead Enfield’s memory club and tech hub to help local older people

A local care provider has announced a partnership with am Enfield secondary school as part of a project to bridge the gap between older and younger generations.
Home Instead Enfield, which provides home care services in the borough, is collaborating with Enfield County School for Girls in a partnership that sees enthusiastic sixth form pupils joining forces to support Home Instead’s bi-weekly memory club and ‘silver surfer tech hub’.
The two programmes take place at United Reformed Church Hall in Armfield Road and Enfield Town Library respectively and the partnership with the school, also based in Enfield Town, has been running since April. It sees elderly residents of the Enfield community receiving “valuable assistance and companionship” from the pupils.
The memory club, held twice monthly, provides a welcoming space for seniors to share cherished memories while fostering connections. Meanwhile, the tech hub empowers older generations by helping them navigate the digital world—whether mastering smartphones, exploring the internet, or connecting with loved ones online.
The collaboration goes beyond providing practical support. By spending time together, pupils and seniors engage in meaningful interactions, fostering mutual understanding and creating opportunities for open conversations. This intergenerational connection highlights important social issues, bridges generational gaps, and “builds a stronger, more inclusive community”.
“We are thrilled to work alongside the wonderful students from Enfield County School for Girls,” said Alexandra Sacker, director at Home Instead Enfield.
“Their energy and enthusiasm bring so much joy and vitality to our programs, and the bonds formed between these two generations are truly transformative. This partnership exemplifies the values of empathy, respect, and collaboration that Enfield County are instilling in their students. It’s incredible to see young people making such a meaningful impact in their community while learning from the wisdom of older generations.”
