Enfield fly-tipper convicted for second time

The 56-year-old was accused of dumping waste illegally in the same location where he had previously been busted

A sign warning against fly-tipping

An Enfield resident has been prosecuted over a fly-tipping incident – for the second time in as many years.

Ion Prundaru, aged 56 and from the EN1 area, ignored an official, legal notice asking him to help Enfield Council with its investigation into a fly-tipping incident after a white Mercedes Sprinter van registered to him was caught on CCTV being used to dump waste in Kenninghall Road, Edmonton, on 7th October last year.

Prundaru was summoned to Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on 19th March, but failed to attend. The court found Prundaru guilty of hindering the council’s investigation and, in his absence, ordered him to pay a fine of £1,100 with a victim surcharge of £440 and full costs of £1,133.

In total he has been told to pay £2,673.

Prundaru already had a criminal record for fly-tipping rubbish in Kenninghall Road, after pleading guilty to a similar offence last year.

Maria Alexandrou, cabinet member for environment at the council, said: “It beggars belief we have successfully prosecuted someone for non-compliance in a fly tipping investigation who was previously convicted for a fly tipping offence in the same road in the borough less than two years ago.

“I’m glad we have brought this serial offender to justice once again through the courts. I hope this will be a deterrent to those who think they can just dump their rubbish on the borough’s streets and get away with it. If you break the law and dirty the borough’s streets you can expect the full force of the law.”
