Local foster carers have been recognised at a special event in Enfield.

Hosted by Enfield Council, the Foster Carers Celebration event brought together long-term carers who have fostered for more than 20 years each, as well as staff members and senior leaders. They were thanked for their continued dedication and hard work.

Enfield mayor Emma Supple and a representative from Foster Carers Association, Nas Hassim, delivered speeches, applauding the long-term fostering carers for their combined 102 years of support for children and young people.

Chris Dey, the council’s cabinet member for children’s services, said: “I would like to thank the fostering community for their vital support in keeping children and young people safe and stable in their homes.

“This special event not only showed our appreciation for their contribution, but it also became a platform to reflect on how we can continue to further strengthen our fostering community.”

Cllr Dey extended his personal thanks to Cevher and Mustafa Meyzin, Malone White, Sharon and Lee Romer, and Ruhi and Abdul Rana, who have all dedicated more than 20 years to fostering.

He added: “We want to continue celebrating the heroes of our community for opening their homes to children who need them the most. Without them, children may be placed far away from the borough, their friends and local support network.

“We are always looking for carers to join our community. With the help of our qualified staff, we guide you through the process of becoming a foster carer.”
