Enfield Town Schools’ Partnership organised the event which featured a planetarium and a competition where pupils were encouraged to follow their curiosity

Nearly 250 schoolchildren from Enfield took part in a fair promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (Stem) subjects this week.
Yesterday (Tuesday 7th), 240 year five pupils from 14 schools across Enfield Town Schools’ Partnership (ETSP) came together for the eighth annual Enfield Stem Fair at Chace Community School.
The children spent weeks developing projects inspired by British Science Week’s theme, ‘Curiosity: What’s Your Question?’. They presented their work to volunteer Stem ambassadors, with prizes awarded for content, visual display and teamwork.
The top three teams each received a science kit and trophy and St George’s were triumphant in their win, taking home the shield with their project How does the digestive system work?.
The day featured a programme of hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and inspire future scientists.
Highlights included space shows inside a giant planetarium, an animal senses workshop, a session covering flood risk management led by Kier Construction, chemistry laboratory sessions led by the Chace Community science team, and a chocolate tea cake challenge – a food technology experiment learning about the heating components of different ingredients.
Following the day, ETSP welcomed local families to a ‘Live Astronomer Space Show’ inside the planetarium, discovering the hottest stars and three dwarf planets.
More than 30% of ETSP pupils are eligible for free school meals, above the national average, and the Stem Fair forms part of ETSP’s commitment to ensuring all children have access to “enriching experiences that broaden their horizons”.
Jennifer Banham, a project co-ordinator for ETSP, said: “It was an action-packed day, with hundreds of Enfield school children leaving with a deeper understanding of Stem and the exciting opportunities it offers for their future.
“We were proud to collaborate with so many wonderful partners who volunteered their time and shared their expertise to inspire our young people.
“A special thanks to Chace Community Secondary School, who kindly opened their doors to host this special event.”
