Every secondary school in the borough will benefit from direct access to school nurses thanks to a new partnership, Enfield Council has announced.

Delivered by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, the “enhanced service” now means that pupils can drop into lunchtime clinics without appointments, receive expert health advice and get the support they need “when and where they need it most”.

The school nursing service also provides training for school staff in the administration of medication for anaphylaxis, epilepsy and asthma.

Alev Cazimoglu, the council’s cabinet member for health and social care, said: “I am pleased the council is leading on this great partnership with the NHS, to ensure every secondary school pupil in the borough has access to a nurse.

“It is vital children receive the help and support they need with their health and wellbeing at such a crucial time in their lives.

“This expanded universal offer to schools in Enfield will support children and young people in making healthy choices, taking responsibility for their health and having access to services they need at the earliest opportunity.”

The services available include phone-based information, advice and guidance for professionals, parents and young people; health care needs assessments for children referred to the service and advice and support with student care plans.

The service supports children and young people aged between five and 19 to “lead healthy lives” and is said to play a “vital role” in support young people’s health across Enfield.
