Enfield U3A has celebrated its 30th anniversary.

U3A is a UK-wide collection of more than 1,000 charities that provide the opportunity for those no longer in work to come together and learn for fun, with around 400,000 members exploring new ideas, skills and interests.

The Enfield branch of U3A was launched in 1994 and is still going strong today. The group gathered last month to celebrate 30 years of learning with tea and “a beautiful anniversary cake”.

This was followed by an interactive talk hosted by Michael Witter, the group’s chairperson.

John Glassberg from Enfield U3A said: “We had photos and memories of those early pioneering days and we traced how Enfield U3A has developed.

“Three of our longest-standing members shared their memories, experiences and roles within the U3A.

“These were interspersed with questions and answers about national and worldwide key historical events together with a sing along of a few songs from the Hit Parade of 1994 when it all began.”
