An Enfield footpath will be temporarily closed in February as engineers from the UK’s largest gas distribution network begin essential maintenance work.

The planned activity by Cadent will take place along the footpath which runs from the rear entrance of Enfield Crematorium near Greenville Cottages up to the footbridge that crosses the A10 Great Cambridge Road.

The footpath forms part of the ‘Enfield Greenways’ walking network and is often used as a shortcut to and from Turkey Street Station.

Cadent has worked closely with Enfield Council and the crematorium to ensure that an alternative route will be put in place and is clearly signposted before the work is due to take place from Friday, 7th February.  The work is expected to take around five or six weeks.

Dan Hurst, project delivery engineer, said: “At Cadent we have a responsibility to make sure every property that uses gas has access to it 24/7, 365 days a year and we often carry out essential maintenance work to ensure that we continue to deliver on that promise.

“While people are often used to us installing traffic management on the roads, we sometimes must apply it to footpaths, and this is one of those situations.

“We will be in regular contact with the council and the crematorium to keep them updated on our work which we will always aim to complete as quickly and as safely as we can.”

Gas supplies will not be affected during these works but anyone who does smell gas should ring the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999, day or night.
