Albany Leisure Centre is partnering with charity Age UK Enfield to offer seniors a new twelve-week exercise class programme.

Older residents can sign up to join two free taster sessions for the ‘movement as medicine’ programme, which starts on Monday, 7th April.

The programme has been specially designed by Age UK for individuals aged 50 and over who are living with chronic medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis.

The classes – which are suitable for all abilities – will feature exercises designed to prevent falls which focus on strength, balance, co-ordination and walking. These include seated elements, strength components using resistance bands and cardio to raise the heart rate.

Sophie Graham, Age UK Enfield’s health and wellbeing navigator, said: “Movement as medicine classes help participants take charge of their health and wellbeing by staying consistent with exercise and promoting physical and mental health improvement.

“The classes also offer a supportive environment where people can engage in physical activity tailored to their needs, empowering them to manage their conditions and improve their overall quality of life.”

After the two taster sessions the full twelve-week programme costs £24.

Vishal Karia, partnership manager for local leisure centres operator GLL, says: “We are delighted to join forces with Age UK and offer people in our community struggling with chronic health conditions the opportunity to experience the benefits of exercise.”
