Enfield Council has secured funding to offer more disabilty swimming lessons at Edmonton Leisure Centre after a successful pilot scheme.

The current sessions taking place on Saturdays run until 27th May. They will now be followed by a second block from 3rd June until 12th August and a third block from 19th August until 21st October. The pilot lessons have seen high demand and there are 100 children on the waiting list ready to take their places on the new dates.

The lessons are run by Fusion Swim School instructors who have been upskilled to deliver inclusive lessons, with a maximum of five children in each group allowing additional time for each pupil.

Alongside the specialist lessons, Fusion Lifestyle is offering disability family swim sessions in the teaching pool at Edmonton Leisure Centre from 11am–12pm on Sunday mornings. These sessions offer the perfect pathway for those who have completed their lessons to continue their swimming practice along with their families and are offered at a concessionary rate of £3 per adult or junior swimmer.

Dominic Hall, sports and community development officer for Fusion Lifestyle, said: “We are delighted to have secured the funding to allow us to continue to run disability swimming lessons until the end of October.

“It’s vitally important that we provide services and classes to allow the whole community to enjoy the facilities at our centres and it’s clear, from the popularity of these sessions, that there is a high demand for them.”
