Founded in 1909, Hazelwood Sports Club started life as a humble tennis club. Over a century later, the club now boasts ten tennis courts (four floodlit clay, three indoor tarmac and three floodlit acrylic – covered during the winter) plus three squash courts, two padel courts and a gym.

Based in Ridge Avenue, Winchmore Hill, the club is proud to be a friendly, welcoming and inclusive space, and members enjoy sporting and social events throughout the year, including outdoor summer barbecues and gatherings in the clubhouse where we have a staffed bar.

Hazelwood encourages all levels of tennis, with juniors, adults and seniors playing from beginners level to experienced – including some international players. It is also home to Unique Tennis, the club’s performance academy which was selected by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to host one of its 24 nationwide regional player development centres. It has a thriving junior programme and numerous adult teams that play in the Middlesex winter and summer leagues.

Over the last year, since the arrival of a new head coach, the club has been extending its community links. Its outreach programme, with help from the LTA and generous donations from club members, includes several ongoing projects – including ‘Prime Video LTA Youth Girls’.

This is a girls-only beginner’s tennis course, packed with games and activities that will not only develop skills on court but also establish new friendships and help to build confidence in everyday life. The programme aims to make tennis more fun, social and engaging for girls by creating an environment that motivates them to enjoy and stay in tennis.

Hazelwood is thrilled to be part of this wonderful initiative. The first Prime Video LTA Youth Girls introductory course will run for six weeks and starts on Saturday, 27th April. From 1pm to 2pm there will be a session for girls aged between six and nine years, and from 2pm to 3pm there’s a session for girls aged ten to 13.

The cost of the whole course is just £35 and includes the opportunity to have lessons with an LTA level-five master performance coach and former GB player. The £35 also includes a racket, T-shirt and a set of balls so that the girls can keep practising at home or at their local courts – ideally with the friends they make on the course!
